Alice Fonseca was born and raised on the vibrant, unpredictable streets of New York City. The child of a musician father and a speakeasy bar owner mother, her upbringing was steeped in rhythm, underground subcultures, and raw human stories. Art was not a chosen path, but an inherited truth—a creative lineage impossible to escape, no matter how hard she tried.
Operating under the studio banner Fonseca Art Works, Fonseca’s modern practice is rooted in the legacy of Abstract Expressionism. Her multi-medium canvases explore the profound disconnect between the analytical, thinking mind and the visceral expression of emotionally derived painting. Bypassing intellectual restraint, her work relies on an intuitive, high-energy process of accumulation, erosion, and physical manipulation. The resulting surfaces are deeply textured and intensely gestural—documenting the chaotic beauty of an emotion making itself physically known before logic can intervene.

Philosphy
“My philosophy is simple: paint with your heart. Let raw expression be your guide, completely unbound by rules of color, technique, or tools.
While institutions and universities can masterfully teach the mechanics of art, no one can teach a creator how to fuse raw passion and emotion with the vision hidden inside their own heart. Formal training may refine a technique, but true art is born from the gut. For an abstract expressionist, the goal is not technical perfection—it is absolute, unfiltered human honesty.”
